  Participated in training programmes organised by CPCRI and State Department of Agriculture, Government of Pondicherry  under COGENT/IPGRI Project on poverty reduction and gained technical know how on scientific management of coconut based farming systems

 

  Availed micro-credit for: Procuring quality planting materials

 

  Utilized the scientific technologies in coconut based intercropping systems

Shri. Dhanarasu actively participated in the activities of the Community Based Organization and shared his experience with other farmers on various aspects of intercropping

 

  Coconut - Variety:

          East Coast Tall

          Tall x Dwarf hybrid

  • Yield : 200 nuts/palm/year

  • A major portion is harvested as tendernut

    Banana as intercrop(2002-03)

  • Variety - Poovan

  • Earned a profit of Rs. 5000/-

Vegetables as intercrop (2003-04)

  • Snake gourd and amaranths

  • Earned a profit of Rs.7000/-

  Livestock

  • One cow

  • Earned a profit of Rs. 2000/- per year and also meeting the domestic requirements of milk

  • Recycling of organic wastes in his farm

   Paddy cultivation (0.4 ha):

  • Earned net return of Rs.5000/- per season

  • In the rice fallows

    • Tapioca earned a profit of Rs.11,000/-

    • Bhendi earned a profit of Rs.1500/-
